A Better Injection Mold Valve Gate System for Colored Lights and Lenses
As stated, the customer in this case was a manufacturer specializing in injection molded light bars for police, fire, ambulance, and related emergency services. Naturally they had to produce lights and lenses in multiple different colors – typically red, blue, and clear.
The production challenge they faced was in switching colors while maintaining quality and efficiency. For example, transitioning from blue to clear required complete and thorough cleaning of the blue material to ensure the clear was not contaminated.
Of course, the meticulous cleaning process added substantial labor time between cycles, increasing costs while also slowing down production. It also wasted a lot of material, requiring complete purging of one color before a different colored part could be molded. Enter Polyshot’s Accutrak system.
Our Accutrak injection molding tip technology is perfectly engineered for this type of use case. Our tooling allows for much quicker color changes, eliminating hours of wasted time with purging. It also provides substantial material savings, along with removing the process of molding scrap parts to purge colors.
After installation of the Polyshot system, the customer was able to go from a blue to a clear part in just three consecutive shots – quicker, cleaner, and more cost-effective.
